Healing
Once you recognize the signs and symptoms it’s very easy to rebalance and nourish the adrenal glands with both lifestyle and essential oils and supplements. See below to begin your healing!
Steps to Combat Adrenal Fatigue (with food and lifestyle)
- Eat a high protein dense animal fat meal within an hour after waking.
- Adrenal Smoothies.
- Skip Processed Foods and seed oils.
- Say No to High Impact Exercise when in adrenal fatigue, work back to it as you begin to nourish them.
- See essential oil and supplement list.
- Say Yes to Fresh Air.
- Take B Vitamins.
- Get Lots of Sleep.
- Include Protein.
- No Caffeine.
The Nervous System
It’s important to understand the Nervous System
The Nervous System is a system of communications that involve the brain, nerves, senses and spinal cord. It detects, interprets, and responds to changes in internal and external conditions.
An interesting feature of the brain is called the Blood Brain Barrier. Small molecules like oxygen, water, glucose, and some essential oils can pass easily through this layer. Large molecules, large proteins, blood cells, many drugs cannot pass through.
It is helpful to have a basic understanding of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems because there are Essential Oils that address both (to either up or down regulate).
Sympathetic- the sympathetic system prepares us for action—it is your fight or flight system and has a short fuse or response time to the organs and a long response back to the system. This system will respond to strong emotions such as anger or excitement—the fight or flight response. When it is in charge—it stimulates the heart, causes the bronchi to react, contracts the arteries raising blood pressure, inhibits the digestive system, mobilizes glucose, and stimulates the secretion of sweat—all preparing you for action.
Parasympathetic – The parasympathetic system keeps everything in working order—pulse, blood pressure, sweat, and manages digestion, etc. When this system is in control, everything is working smoothly.
Essential Oils that Support the Nervous System
Oils that support the Nervous System:
- Frankincense
- Orange
- Stress Away
- Lemongrass
- Lavender
- PanAway
- Copaiba
- Thieves
Topical and internal is the best way to use oils to support the nervous system for adrenals but overall the olfactory nerves are directly connected to the brain and affect the midbrain where emotions and memory is stored – so a big part of adrenal reset is to also diffuse and work thru the emotional traumas and triggers.
More Info on Essential Oils
Essential oils classed as parasympathetic stimulation would be relaxing to the mind, improving the digestive system, countering emotional stress responses and assisting with sleep. Some examples are: Lemongrass, Citrus Oils, Marjoram, Chamomile, Frankincense, and Ylang ylang.
Essential oils classed as sympathetic stimulants (adrenal stimulants) would have the opposite effects. We would see symptoms of increased adrenal action such as increased heart rate, possibly increased blood pressure, increased physical and mental activity, a tendency toward nausea if used too close to a meal, bronchial spasm release, increase in sweating, and a tendency to wakefulness. Some examples are: Basil, Eucalyptus, Lemon, Peppermint, Rosemary, Cinnamon, and Patchouli.
Essential oils classed as “balancing” will act either way. They will not stimulate a person to either extreme but rather to a balance in the autonomic nervous system. What we are endeavoring to achieve is a balanced system with neither system totally governing the body. Some examples are: Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Cedarwood, and Bergamot.
Other Young Living products that support the Nervous System: OmegaGize, Ningxia Red, Raindrop Technique, cortistop, longevity softgels
Adrenal Love Blend
***PS I highly recommend rubbing these over your adrenals topically too and bonus add rosemary
(recipe card)
4 drops Nutmeg
3 drops Orange
3 drops Frankincense
2 drops Clove
This can be topical (I highly recommend) alongside diffusing.
Note: you can do more drops for larger diffusers such as the Aria diffuser
This is a great blend to diffuse in the mornings and during times of stress – while working, during meetings, etc – or anytime you are feeling the need for a boost!
Let’s take a quick look at the oils in this blend.
Love Blend Oils at a Glance
Nutmeg: THE essential oil for adrenal support, Nutmeg helps process and balance feelings of Exhaustion – which makes perfect sense. When our stress response system is on overdrive, how could we feel anything BUT exhausted? And when we are exhausted we are more prone to injury and illness.
Frankincense: Frankincense is a versatile oil that supports immunity, helps the body process inflammation and works as an antioxidant in the body. Frankincense has long been used for its powerful health-supporting properties, and has been used ‘to treat every conceivable ill known to man.’
Clove: THE essential oil for powerful antioxidant support. Clove has an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value of 1,078,700 (read: Clove is able to absorb and mitigate a LOT of free radicals. It’s ability to do so is basically OFF the charts). Why antioxidants?? Because they help boost immunity and allow the body to repair cellular damage caused by the environment, injury and (you guessed it) – stress!
Orange: high in limonene, a constituent well known for its health benefits, Orange is supportive of the immune system and incredibly uplifting to the emotions! Orange can also help stimulate creativity which is often lacking when we are stressed and over tired.
