Cuts, Scrapes, and Wounds

Jodie Meschuk January 3, 2025

Essential oils have all kinds of properties that are great at healing wounds heal, but you need to think a little beyond just the healing of the wound itself. Is it a deep wound? Is there a chance of muscle or nerve damage to consider? Inflammation, infection, bone injury, fever? It’s a beautiful thing that essential oils are nature’s little healers but also multifunctional. Maybe an emotion will come with this injury, so what oil might help address that while healing the wound? There are a lot of options, but the more you think about all the aspects of the wound, the easier it is to find the right ones for each situation.

Note: Peppermint can be helpful in treating wounds but will most likely sting when applied to an open wound. To reduce discomfort, dilute with Lavender or mix with Rose Ointment before applying. When applied to a scabbed over wound, a diluted Peppermint blend will soothe, cool, and reduce inflammation in damaged tissue.

TIPS:
Lavender can be used undiluted to disinfect wounds, scrapes, and cuts. Roman Chamomile is also very mild and an excellent pain reliever and remedy for scratches and chapped, dry skin. Adding Roman Chamomile to Rose Ointment makes a great healing first aid salve.

To promote cell regeneration and healing, apply oils like Patchouli, Neroli, Lavender, Myrrh, Helichrysum, and Sandalwood later in the healing process.

Rose Ointment makes an ideal sealing and penetrating ointment for all wounds, cuts, and abrasions. It helps reduce the evaporation of the essential oils which allows them to keep in contact with the skin longer, strengthening their antimicrobial and tissue-regeneration benefits. It also helps seal and protect the wound from debris, dirt, and reinfection.
